Summer Reading Programs

This year’s  Medford public library’s summer reading programs will be held on each Wednesday morning in June at 10:30 a.m. in the civic Center.  These programs are open to all children in Grant County and are free of charge! The theme for this year is “Be Creative at your Library. Come join the fun and register anytime for our programs in June or you can also register at any of the programs.  Medford Summer School students will register through their teachers so if you’re going to summer school here in Medford, you don’t need to stop by the Library to register.  We will also have a big dragon hanging in the Library this year. If you read at least one book each week you will be able to put a “scale” on the dragon!   We would also like for you to stop by and check out some books or play on the train set! For those of you who haven’t been in lately, we have a large brand new rug in the children’s area with jungle animals on it!!  If you have any questions about the programs please call  Tomi at the Library at 395-2342 or toll free at 1 888 930-9914 if you live out of town (unless you are calling from a cell phone).     We’ll look forward to seeing you! The Cherokee Strip Chapter of the American Red Cross will be giving a class on SUMMER SAFETY TIPS for Youth at the Medford Library Reading Program on Wednesday, June 10th at 10:30 am.  This program will be divided  into 3 fifteen minute segments:  BAT (Basic Aid Training), READY – SET- PREPARE (Storms and Tornadoes), and  SCRUBBY BEAR (hand washing safety).  “This program is geared to all youth (K through 6th).  It is very important for our children to have the necessary tools and knowledge to handle any situation that may arise, especially during the summer vacation.  Kids are outside more and are more apt to encounter a situation that requires action, and it is our duty to give them the direction to handle a situation safely,” says Executive Director, Barbara Keller.

The Cherokee Strip Chapter of the American Red Cross covers all of Grant County and Western Kay County.  Our office is located at 1313 W. Furguson, Blackwell, OK.  We respond to all local disaster within our jurisdiction, and  are on call 24-7, 365 days a year.

The Chapter wants to thank the Medford Public Library Reading Program for the opportunity in allowing us to prepare our County youth with the necessary information for Summer Safety.

Medford Public Library's next Summer Reading Program will be:
Inflate Create and Celebrate!
The Imagination Show with Professor B Looney

Professor B Looney is arriving at the Medford Civic Center and he just loves to bee Looney with bee loonies. That is Balloons. The Professor can make any thing out of balloons and every summer he visits the libraries with his balloon art, his magic and his puppets. And this year Bs theme is all about being Creative so when you read a book you create pictures in your mind. Some books have pictures but others let your create your own. The Professor likes Balloon so he will try to illustrate books that the audience has read with his balloon creations! This will be a fun challenge for him and entertaining to the children…and maybe you will see amazing balloon creations that make you want to read that book!

Stephen Smith, who plays Professor B Looney has been performing around Oklahoma for almost 30 years. He is a Balloon Artist; he can make almost anything out of a balloon. He is a silly magician and he is also a ventriloquist, and builds most of his own puppets. Stephen Smith has gone by many names over the years such as Tupper the Clown and Okie Dokie. Or for his more serious programs he can portray, Ben Franklin, Orville Wright, and many other historical figures.

This Medford Public Library's third Summer Reading Program and will be held on Wednesday, June 17th at 10:30 a.m.
